GESTIÓN INTEGRAL DE RESIDUOS PELIGROSOS BIOLÓGICO INFECCIOSOS EN LOS LABORATORIOS DE UNA ESCUELA OFICIAL DE MEDICINA

Abstract

In actuality various hospitals, clinical laboratories, educational institutions, research centers, where they generate biohazardous waste; no have a control for their handling and final disposal. Through the years have been a health problem and environmental pollution, because some of the diseases are generated by contact and exposure to them. That’s why his goal of this work was to propose an integral system management of the handling of biohazardous waste, specifically in laboratories of the Official School of Medicine. The study was qualitative with focus observational sectional. The investigation work was held in Official School of Medicine, located in the metropolitan area of Mexico City. 14 laboratories were inspected ─seven research, four teaching and three external service. The study began with a survey of diagnosis and then was evaluated the degree of compliance with respect to the Mexican Official Standard NOM-087-SEMARNAT-2002. Protection environmental-health environmental-waste biohazardous. Classification and specification of handling. 12 of the 14 laboratories failed to meet 50% the specifications regarding the handling of biohazardous waste mentioned in the aforementioned standard. So it is concluded that there is no organizational structure in the School, which is responsible for the comprehensive management of biohazardous waste. The lack of both administrative and technical control in terms of operations involving the handling of biohazardous waste, maintains latent the risk that staff working in these laboratories may suffer damage to their health by exposure to this type of waste, along with the environmental impact that they may generated.
