Searching the maximum security, the man has worried about designing some constructive systems to allow living with his similars in a comfortable, safe, and economical way. This constant evolution has led him to build aesthetics, functional, safe, and economical buildings, that today we can see anywhere in our cities; and to look for better criterions, methods, systems and materials to design and build structures able to support some earthquakes with variable intensity. Recently, the energy dissipation devices application as a structural component in buildings has been an effective solution to reduce the repair costs, because they mitigate the damage accumulated of the conventional frames. Besides, the replacement of such devices is a simple action to carry out. Analytical models from 14 story buildings were studied in this thesis; they are considered as typical from built ones in the soft soil zone of the Mexico City. They are made of reinforced concrete frames with three different types of energy dissipation devices: TADAS, U and viscoelastic. It has considered two excitement groups with two criteria: for a strong earthquake and for some seismic histories into a range of 100 years, by means of earthquakes simulated according to the seismicity of the zone. The design conditions of frames are the same. The tolerable ductilities method is used to design the frame and basic parameters of each device. The design of each one of them is included. The behavior hysteretic of reinforced concrete elements is modeled considering the degradation of stiffness and strength by Campos and Esteva model [1997a], and the fatigue device is into account with Miner rule [1945]. We hope to define the device type with best performance by means of a comparison of the structural responses and of probabilistic results of the different frames analyzed for the conditions of the soft soil zone of the Mexico City.es
